1. Hire other local veteran driver (who talks Putonghua and Tibetan language)

 

car rental is only possible in Sichuan, and won't be available in Tibet;

all car rentals to foriegn passports holders, which are inside Tibet or going into Tibet, will go together with required papers, local guide service, and hotel reservation

tourists from Hong Kong and Maccau are free from those regulations, they can travel into Tibet just like common Chinese mainland tourists

my car: 7 seats in total, diesel engine, 2 wheel drive; this car had reached high mountain passes over 5050 meters in western Sichuan where these towns, for example, Derge, Ganzi, Baiyu, Litang, Daocheng, Yading, are located; because it is traditonal desiel powered, therefore,the noise is relatively louder when the engine is in its idle state or when its speed is less than 35 kilometers, compared to those gasoline powered cars.
