Ta'er monastery, Huangzhong

Ta'er monasteyr, also called 'Dajin monastery', is one of the 6 most well known monasteries to Yellow Hat - Gelupa; one of the other 5 is Labrang monastery at Xiahe of southern Gansu province; the other 4 monasteries to Gelupa are inside Tibet A.R. (Xizang), they are Ganden monastery, Tsepun monastery, Sera monastery, Tashilunpo monastery at Shgatse.

Ta'er monastery is 26 kilometers to the south of Xining city, capital of Qinghai province;  this monastery was built in 1379 to momerize Tsongkapa, the funder of Gelupa order (one school of Tibetan buddhism).

In its history, the Dalai Lamas of 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 13th and 14th and the Pana Chan Lamas of 6th,, 9th and 10th once stayed there for some time, shorter or longer.

Every year, there are many celebrations held here, among these, the ritual celebrations on every New Year time by lunnar canlender, the 4th month, 6th month and 9th month by lunnar canlender are worth of your  visit. and on the end of 10th month by lunnar canlendar is the time to hold ritual celebrations in momery of the death of Tsongkapa.

Butter flowering arts, wall paintings and cascaded embrodery are the 3 unique presentations of Ta'er monastery.
