Mingdroling monastery

Mingdroling monastery, located 45km to the east of Lhasa airport, just by the Samye ferry, is one the Ningma - pa sect's monastery. There are two monasteries belonging to Ningma - pa sect, one is Gongha county, located at the place opposite just to the Yalu Zangbu river, the other is in Qongjie county.

This monastery was built in the end of 10th century, in 1676, it was almost destroyed by fire, rebuilt in 1720. This monastery enjoys much better and more popular reputation across the world. In history, although the Fifth Dalhai Lhama was the top of Gelu pa sect, in some time ,he believed in the teachings of Ningmapa sect.

The top lhamas in it are good at Tibetan calligraphy Tibetan medicine study and astronomy, the teachings of “the wheel of time”. In history, the top lhamas were hired to teach in the College of lhamas which is sited in Potala palace.
